		<description>WIP Performance SARC

Live audio-visual performance that will weave field
recordings to explore the entangled relations between
human and more-than-human worlds. Drawing upon
creative ethnography, it will explore the overlooked

"shadow places" (Plumwood, 2008) that sustain and haunt
contemporary life via a sensory meditation on place,
memory, and coexistence.

		<description>C₁₆₆H₁₃₀O₄₉Film Duration: 8 minutes 15sGenre: Experimental DocumentaryFormat: Digital / Immersive Sound / Mixed Media (Satellite Imagery, IR video &#38;amp; Field Audio)

C₁₆₆H₁₃₀O₄₉ is a meditative, non-narrative exploration of a transformed landscape, Großräschen See (formerly Ilse-See), a flooded lignite mine turned artificial lake. Through abstract satellite imagery submerged beneath the lake’s surface, the film delves into the layered entanglement of human intervention and non-human presence. These images are set against a composed soundscape made from textured field recordings.The lake footage is captured using infrared recording technology, revealing visual registers normally hidden from human sight. Expanding perception and opening new ways of sensing this submerged world.Low, echoing resonance from the pier, once part of an industrial excavator, now a pedestrian bridge, vibrates with deep metallic groans. The creaks and shudders of a jetty responding, almost involuntarily, to the slow violence of the space, groaning under the weight of memory and time. These groans fluctuating with the movement of the body of water.In the midst of this sonic register, the lake’s inhabitants speak in subtler tones: the gentle release of gas from swim bladders, rising like ghostly exhalations toward the surface.A new ecology has emerged in the aftermath of extraction. One that is tentative, uneasy, alive.

		<description>
	92UFilm Duration: 4 minutes 10sGenre: Experimental DocumentaryFormat: Digital / Immersive Sound / Mixed Media (Satellite Imagery, IR video &#38;amp; Field Audio)

92U is an experimental documentary short responding to fieldwork conducted in Bad Schlema, a former spa town in Saxony’s Erzgebirgskreis district, later transformed into one of the world’s largest uranium mining operations. The film reflects on the enduring legacy of this extractive activity and the vast, remediated terrains that remain. These “heap landscapes”, formed from over 7.7 million cubic meters of uranium mining waste, are now capped, covered with mineral soil, and reforested into curated landscapes of apparent stability.Through a blend of infrared recording, archival material, and footage from within the former mine, 92U brings these human-made environments into conversation with their past and possible futures. Infrared imagery expands our visual perception, revealing unseen contours of the reengineered land, while archival clips evoke both the intensity of past activity and the nostalgia expressed by local communities.Ambient recordings of birds singing, leaves rustling and trees swaying are interjected with the bursts of Geiger counter recordings, pulling the viewer into a deeper awareness of the unseen presence of radiation. These sonic interruptions serve as a reminder that remediation is not erasure, and that curated nature overlays a still-active legacy. Still images from inside the mine include – abandoned tracks, corroded pipes, stagnant waters, and oxidised minerals. These linger beside the altered surfaces, exposing a layered dialogue between memory, containment, and transformation.At once meditative and critical, 92U considers how landscapes shaped by uranium function. This site might soon be re-entered for lithium, continuing cycles of extraction beneath a surface that appears, for now, quiet.

&#38;nbsp;Cloud of Consequence is a 10 minute experimental documentary that unveils the hidden physical world supporting our virtual lives.

Through a poetic narrative, the film explores the vast and often secretive infrastructure that powers our digital existence — from server farms and undersea cables to the energy hungry networks that connect us.

Juxtaposing on-location shots with the soothing voice of the "Cloud", the film grounds the ethereal and abstract concept of the digital world in its physical reality. By shedding light on the complex systems behind the internet and cloud services. Cloud of Consequence prompts reflection on the environmental and social costs of our increasingly connected lives.

The film offers an immersive meditation on the immense energy and resources required to maintain the seamless experiences we often take for granted.

Tributary is an experimental ethnographic film that traces the movement and harnessing of natural resources within the Icelandic landscape to support our digital lives.

Tributary explores covert, 'black-boxed' data centres (remote and highly secure sites) by tracking water and geothermal sources to the infrastructure required to power and house these physical locations of intensive computational processing.

Created from a combination of traditional and experimental field recording techniques made within Iceland and the UK, Tributary aims to problematise the notion of 'green' data centres. It showcases the intensive energy requirements required to prop up the digital infrastructure of contemporary life.&#38;nbsp;These include cryptocurrency mining, cloud storage, digital image production and media streaming.

A collaboration between James Davoll, Paul Dolan and Pete Howson.

Experimental Moving Image&#38;nbsp;22 minutes 15 seconds
On the 26th February 1947 the steamship SS Zephyros (formerly Dunedin) ran aground on the rocks of Brown's Bay after losing its anchor in a storm.

Its skeleton now appears on the lowest of tides as a fossil amongst the reef. This film investigates this fossil with the ever present backdrop of newer younger shipping vessels awaiting to enter the Port of Tyne.
The film approaches the subject from a more-than-representational and more-than-human stance. Using methods that can better cope with our self-evidently more-than-human, more-than-textual, multi-sensual world.

This exploration is driven by combining traditional and experimental ethnographic film and soundscape techniques alongside improvisation and non-linear editing strategies.

&#38;nbsp;

The soundtrack of the film consists of on site recordings and an improvised performance made with the wreck on the 30.06.21.

Davoll and Bowers will present a live performance at the intersection of twilight and low tide on the 23rd August 2022 at 20:45.This performance will seek to explore this fossil via a live film edit using Davoll’s collection of recordings made with/ on and from the wreck throughout 2021. The performance will take place on Cullercoats harbour wall within line of sight of Brown’s Point, the final resting place of the Zephyros.It is hoped the ambience of the location, the incoming tide and the rhythm of water will stimulate this new rendition and enter a dialogue with the ship.

Penryn Quarry is one of the last remaining strongholds of the Welsh Slate Industry. An Industry dating back to the 16th century employing generations of Welsh workers.

Where once mountains stood, valleys now reside. The mountains having been hollowed by industry. The waste tipped to the ground, redefining gradient lines. Leaving vast quarried terraces behind as a relic of industry.

In this short film we follow the journey of one such slab of slate from mountain to crate.&#38;nbsp;4k. Colour. 16:9. 18 minutes 54 seconds.

“Caterpillar diggers are dwarfed against the backdrop of a vast dark grey terraced mountain. This is a scene of an industrial past, and one now unexpected in the valleys since the invention of the concrete roof tile led to the slow demise of the Welsh slate industry.

Having presented this ruined landscape, artist/filmmaker James Davoll sets up his narrative with a careful focus on the material itself. This is presented through a series of lingering frames tracing the process of quarrying slate from mountain, to tile, to crate. It is not until halfway through ‘Splitting Stone’ that we even see a human being. These workers serve the material as actors in a Fordist production line, masters of their repetitive actions, splitting stone in a cacophony of machine noise.”&#38;nbsp; Henrietta Williams - Bartlett Screening Room.
